About.

Hello and welcome!

I’m Achilles, the Webmaster.

Do come in.
Heh, heh, heh!

This is the website for
(some of) the creative writing of Erika Norden.
Most of it is in “Shorter Works”.
Writing from the longer project SET
you can find in “SET”,
and writing from other longer
pieces you can find in “Longer Works”,
logically enough.

We hope you
enjoy wandering here.

On “[fragmented]”:

Where you see “[fragmented]”
in a title,
the author chooses to share
only fragments of the original piece
here.
Any pink “[ fragmented ]” or
green “[ . . . ]” within the text
shows where there is
missing material.

Don’t get mad at E.N., now.
She thought it would be worth
sharing a little something from these
pieces, if not
them in their entirety.

From E.N.:

What is Waiting Haus Cinema?
A good question…I used to think it was where the gods went
to watch mortals.

Suppose there are some gods who wrote you into existence? That’s what I thought about as I was doing lots of writing, myself. I created characters. It felt like they were alive somewhere…even if in a universe I could never reach directly.

What if it went the other direction, too?

Why did they need a cinema? Oh, the gods I mentioned? Well, I don’t know.

Surely a chance to get together and watch the lives of these people you’ve invested so much energy into would be…enjoyable? They didn’t tell me.

But, hey. This is kind of a cinema. You can “watch” my characters through the writing. I don’t know if you exactly count as a co-creator, but I won’t rule it out. (After all, am I the sole creator if I have bits of other people in me? One starts to wonder about this whole “me/I” thing…)

Here’s an excerpt about a “Waiting House Cinema”, which could be related. Then again, it might not be. The excerpt-fragments are from an unfinished theater piece/play about a place called “Kelekor”. (Which translates as “Transformation”.)
It starts with a monologue. (Speaker not named.)
Eh, I don’t know if this is helpful, but you can read it.

[About excerpt]

Ouk is a deity, according to the narrator. A deity “everyone” believes in there. If you were wondering…

In case you’re interested, here’s another short excerpt. This is from labyrinth (see “labyrinth” under “SET” for more on that project).

Again, who knows exactly how relevant this is. But it might give some hints about this cinema of the gods, after which apparently a cinema for humans called “Waiting Haus Cinema” was created. (Or maybe they were one and the same. It’s not entirely clear…)

(Per below excerpt.)

[Who wheels? / Who makes the pictures run? excerpt]

“He” is the narrator’s childhood friend Subba. (Sometimes spelled “Subha”, as the main characters and their counterparts had three names each…at least.) (Yes, I know I only mentioned two for Subba/Subha.)

Right after “Weird movie. / Excuse me: film,” a light shines out on them and they have to answer a strange question or two. (It’s not entirely clear what’s going on.)

This is the “question” in “I didn’t realize he was answering the question,” right after that.

I could have left that in, but it wasn’t worth sharing. Hopefully it’s a little easier to read with my explanation.
